Replacing a garage door is the largest single change you can make to the front of a house, and on most Auckland streets the door is a third of what you see from the road. It's worth getting the choice right.
Door types
Sectional doors
Run in horizontal panels up and back under the ceiling. Better sealing, better insulation, quieter, and they let you park hard against the door.
Roller doors
Coil into a drum above the opening. They take almost no headroom, which makes them the answer in low-clearance garages and under-house garaging, and they cost less. Fewer options on insulation and finish.
Insulated doors
These matter more than people expect in Auckland. Not for warmth so much as for what's behind the door. An uninsulated door turns a garage into an oven in February, which matters if the garage is a workshop, a gym or a room the kids use. It also cuts road noise noticeably, and stops the condensation that rusts tools on a west-facing wall.
Cedar and timber-look
Genuine cedar is the premium option and looks the part on a villa or a bungalow. It needs recoating every few years and it's heavier, which affects the spring and motor spec.
Woodgrain-finish steel gets most of the look with none of the maintenance, at a fraction of the price, and on a lot of houses you can't tell from the street.
Coastal properties. If you're within a couple of kilometres of the water, specify marine-grade hardware and a coastal-rated finish. It's a small premium at install, and it's the difference between hardware that lasts fifteen years and hardware that's seized in five.

- Order. Allow the manufacturing lead time for standard colours, longer for custom.
- Install. Usually half a day. Old door out, new tracks and springs in, opener fitted or transferred, and we take the old door away.
